Pakistan ArmyDG ISPR terms news about deal with Nawaz Sharif as ‘baseless speculation’

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Commenting for the first time on the recently much-talked-about alleged deal between the Establishment and the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar has termed it a “baseless speculation”.

“Regarding deal of Nawaz Sharif, I would say it is baseless speculation, I would request you to ask the person who claims about the deal to seek details and evidence of the deal,” the director general ISPR said while responding to a question in a media briefing held in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Major General Babar Iftikhar also said that it would be better not to give weightage to such speculations as the Country has much bigger issues to deal with.

“The less you discuss, the better it is for the Country,” he said.

The DG ISPR said that a conspiracy is being hatched by the enemies of Pakistan to create a rift between state institutions by forces within the Country and those abroad but we will not let them succeed.

“We are well cognizant of elements stationed inside the County or abroad who are running a malicious campaign to malign institutions aimed at creating a rift among the institutions and masses,” he said.

Talking about the fencing at the border, Major General Babar Iftikhar said that 94 percent work on the erection of a fence along the Pak-Afghan border has been completed whilst on the Pak-Iran border, 71 percent work on the fencing has been achieved.

Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the work under the western border management regime will be completed in the stipulated period.

The DG ISPR emphasized the importance of fencing on the Pak-Afghan border, saying that it is important for the security of people on both sides of the border as well as to regulate trade activities.

“It (fencing) is not aimed at dividing the people but securing them,” he said.

The DG ISPR further told that 67 new wings of FC Balochistan and FC Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were established in the year 2021 to further strengthen the border security. He said that the process has also been started to establish six more wings.

As regards the achievements made under the Radd-ul-Fasaad Operation in 2021, the DG ISPR said that 60,000 Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) were carried out which helped dismantle terrorist networks.

The DG ISPR said that on the basis of 890 threat alerts issued by the intelligence agencies during the said period, about 70 percent possible terror threats were averted.

Replying to a question, he said that armed forces have the capacity to deal with all external and internal threats despite economic constraints. He said that we are ready to render any kind of sacrifices to eliminate the menace of terrorism from Pakistan.
