ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In an effort to avert the looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and initiate a united effort to assist the distressed Afghans, the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is being held in Islamabad on Sunday.

The Conference reflects Pakistan’s abiding commitment and consistent efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and the continued well-being of the Afghan people.

It would provide an opportunity to consider practical and concrete steps to help address the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.

In the Session, Prime Minister Imran Khan will deliver the keynote address. “I look forward to speaking at the Conference,” he wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

In a Twitter statement, Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed the foreign dignitaries arrived in Pakistan to attend the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

The prime minister said that the Session is an expression of solidarity with the Afghans and an opportunity to converge energies to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also warmly welcomed all visiting delegates to Pakistan.

On the sidelines of the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of the Foreign Ministers on Saturday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi also met the foreign dignitaries including the OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, the Foreign Minister of Kuwait Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf, the Foreign Minister of Malaysia Dato Sri Saifuddin Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia & Herzegovina Dr. Bisera Turkovic, the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Mutaqqi, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Makhkamov Ilkhom Rustamovich.
