Journalists should perform their duty of reporting religiously to uphold their dignity: WJAPK Head Fauzia Kalsoom Rana

MediaJournalists should perform their duty of reporting religiously to uphold their dignity:...

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Founder and Head of Pakistan’s first women Journalists’ body the Women Journalists Association of Pakistan (WJAPK) Ms. Fauzia Kalsoom Rana has said that journalism is a noble and divine profession; wherein reporting with fidelity is an utmost duty of journalists.

Speaking in private news channel Roz TV morning show Subh Bakhair Pakistan hosted by Saima Amjad, she said journalists should uphold the dignity of their profession by not becoming a party to any political or other group for vested interests and should honestly and religiously report their stories.

Talking about the challenges faced by the women journalists, Ms. Fauzia Kalsoom Rana said that the working environment for women journalists is not conducive in the developing world, especially in Pakistan as they face resistance at the domestic level and discrimination at the workplace. She said journalists should use social media and other platforms responsibly to maintain the dignity of the journalistic profession.

Alluding to the problems faced by the journalists working in the electronic media, she said media houses should be regulated as per wage award announced by the government.

Ms. Fauzia Kalsoom Rana said WJAPK was formed to highlight and protect the rights of women Journalists in Pakistan.

The Head of WJAPK said the association will provide a platform to struggling and working journalists to raise their issues as the existing journalist bodies are protecting the vested interests of only the elite journalists and those having allegiance to them.
