First pre-monsoon rain: Weather turns pleasant

Met. Office forecasts more scattered rain in upper and central Punjab‚ upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 12 hours.

There are reports of first pre-monsoon rain with dust-thundershower at isolated places of southern Sindh‚ northeast Punjab and Kashmir during the last 12 hours.

A Meteorological Office (Met. office) spokesman told media on Wednesday morning that the rain has brought a much needed relief to the people hit by a long hot and dry weather spell.

The spokesman said the extreme heat wave has now subsided in most parts of the country.

To a question‚ the spokesman said rain still continues in Islamabad‚ Rawalpindi‚ Sargodha‚ Gujranwala‚ Bahawalpur‚ upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

Murree has so far received 63 millimeters rain‚ Lahore 50 and Gujranwala 32 millimeters.

The met office spokesman said pre-monsoon currents from Arabian Sea have penetrated into southern parts of the country and would extend towards most parts today and tomorrow.

He said a westerly wave is also expected to approach upper parts of the country during the next 48 hours.
