WANA, Pakistan: A fire that was broke out in the timber markets of Wana, a town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan district, on Saturday engulfed the market within no time.

The situation could turn to be alarming; however, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and Rescue 1122 averted the looming disaster due to their prompt and timely action.

As soon as the fire erupted, FC personnel on the instructions of Commandant South Waziristan Scouts Muhammad Waseem Altaf reached the spot promptly. The fire was controlled with the help of FC personnel and Rescue 1122 after hectic efforts.

According to official sources, FC personnel as well as Rescue 1122 also played their role in putting out the fire.

On the other hand, the owners of the affected timber market said that the fire caused the loss of millions of rupees. “We are poor people and we are trading in timber here. This is the only source of income, so the government should estimate our losses and rectify them immediately,” they demanded.

Later, the district administration said that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet. They are investigating why and how the fire started.

In this regard, the affected people and the residents of the area appreciated the timely action of FC and Rescue 1122, as a great disaster was averted due to their prompt and timely action.

It is pertinent to mention here that almost a year ago, on October 11, 2020, a fire broke out at the timber market in Wana, wherein it was stated that almost 40 shops, 50 timber stores, and fruit mandies (markets) were turned to ashes, causing an estimated loss more than Rs 500 million.
