ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Accounts Committee has estimated the Country’s GDP growth for the Fiscal Year 2020-21 to 3.94%, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar told on Friday.

In a statement on Twitter, Asad Umar said that the GDP growth at 3.94% in a period in which COVID-19 placed a huge challenge to the economy is extremely gratifying and proof of the success of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s economic policies.

The minister said that due to a combination of the GDP growth and the strengthening of Pakistan’s rupee against the US$, the per capita of Pakistan has jumped by 13.4% this year from US$ 1,361 to US$ 1,543.

Asad Umar said that the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has risen from US$ 263 billion to US$ 296 billion, an increase of US$ 33 billion which is the highest ever increase in any year.

Separately, the Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, Industries and Production Muhammad Hammad Azhar also termed the estimated GDP growth of 3.94% a remarkable recovery.

Hammad Azhar said that unlike the past growth stints, the Country’s forex reserves have also grown and the current account remains in surplus. He hoped that the industry-led economic growth will further accelerate in the future.
