Pakistan to vaccinate 70 million people against COVID-19 by 2021 end

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan has said that 70 million people will be vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Country by the end of 2021.

Briefing media persons in Islamabad on Monday, he said that 150,000 COVID-19 vaccines are being administered on daily basis and our target is to take to 300,000.

The Special Assistant said that the government has pursued a well-thought-out strategy to procure the vaccine and so far deals for 30 million doses have been signed, terming it as satisfactory.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said that 19 million doses will be received by June 2021. He clarified that we are not relying on donations but 90 percent of the vaccine doses are being purchased.

Moreover, he said that the local filling of single-dose Cansino vaccine is about to begin in the Country.

The Special Assistant said that three million doses of the Cansino vaccine will be prepared at the National Institute of Health per month, adding that it will reduce our dependence on the imported doses.

Dr. Faisal Sultan urged the people to continue to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to check the spread of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, according to him, the vaccination of people aged above 40 years has been started from today.
