ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The rehabilitation work of the IJP Road is scheduled to start by the next Financial Year 2021-22, the National Assembly was told on Friday.

In a written reply, the Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told the House that the proposed rehabilitation of the road includes the addition of two rigid pavement lane along with the rehabilitation of existing two-lane on both sides of the roads.

The minister apprised that the time completion of work is two years from the award of work.

The House was told that the IJP Road is the busiest road and due to heavy traffic, almost 40-50% of the road is in dilapidated condition.

It was apprised that the routine repair/maintenance such a necessary patchwork etc. is being carried out for smooth flow traffic. However, keeping in the road now needs a complete rehabilitation including widening.

The House was further told that the PC-I amounting to Rs 6739.000 million has been approved while the consultants have been appointed and detailed design along with estimates for the work are under approval.

In addition, it was told that the road was originally constructed 2004-06 with a design axel load of flexible pavement as 8.2 tons.

However, after the Marriot Bomb Blast in 2007 heavy traffic was diverted to the IJP Road from Srinagar Highway and the heavy traffic using the road is mostly carrying 25 tons axel load.
