ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet has approved the Ramazan Relief Package worth Rs 7.8 billion on 19 essential items to facilitate the common people during the Holy Month through the network of Utility Stores across Pakistan.

Briefing media about the decisions taken by the Federal Cabinet which met in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, the Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar said that earlier the subsidy under the Ramazan Relief Package was available on five items only.

The minister said that the sale of the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) is likely to reach Rs 100 billion this year and it is expected that the USC will earn some profit as well.

Hammad Azhar said that the Cabinet has also approved to run two Urea Small Plants of the Private Sectors from March 2021 to meet the requirements of the farmers. He said that large-scale manufacturing showed a growth of 9.1 percent in January 2021.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the Cabinet ordered the forensic audit of the loss-making entities and in the first phase, 10 such entities will pass through the process which will be completed by June 30, 2021.

Fawad Chaudhry said that it is worth mentioning that 51 out of 85 loss-making State-Owned Enterprises have become profitable due to prudent policies of the government.

The minister said that the approval was also granted to the new Arms License Policy about prohibited and non-prohibited bore.

The minister said that the Cabinet also approved the issuance of Smart Cards to the Afghan refugees, having Proof of Registration (PoR) Cards so that their life can be made easy and for the swift resolution of their problems.

The Minister for Science and Technology said that tax exemption was granted on auto-disable syringes to prevent the spread of various diseases.
