ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday imposed sales tax on sale and activation of cell phone sims at a flat rate of Rs250 per sim, a move which is likely to attract consumers’ flak.

According to a notification issued by the FBR, mobile phone companies are required to submit monthly tax returns to the FBR.

Moreover, the FBR has also imposed tax on the import of low-priced cell phones at the flat rate of Rs150 while on medium-priced cell phones the rate of tax is Rs250.

In addition, a flat tax of Rs500 per set has also been imposed on the import of smartphones, android phones.
