BusinessNepra approves power tariff hike by 75 paisa per unit

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday approved 75 paisa per unit increase in the power tariff under the fuel adjustment plan.

The regulator allowed the increase during a public hearing conducted in Islamabad with Nepra Chairman in chair.

During the hearing, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) informed Nepra that furnace oil of Rs 4.70 billion was purchased in the month of April to generate electricity. Furnace oil cost Rs 16.48 and diesel cost around Rs 21.48 per unit for electricity production. Also, 18 paisa per unit was lost due to power theft and line losses.

The new tariff will be applicable following government’s approval. After notification, consumers using electricity above 100 units will have to pay additional 75 rupees.
