SportsPSLHBL PSL 6 postponed due to COVID-19

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sixth Edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been postponed followed the emergence of multiple Coronavirus Cases.

With three more COVID-19 Cases, the tally of infections had reached seven; therefore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to postpone the ongoing HBL PSL 6.

Initially, Islamabad United’s Fawad Ahmed was tested positive and then United’s Lewis Gregory and Quetta Gladiators’ Tom Banton also turned out to be infected with the virus.

The PCB said that the three players were not part of the sides that featured in Wednesday’s both T20s and had been tested in the afternoon after showing symptoms.

Reportedly, in total six players and one staff member were tested positive for COVID-19.

Prior to the PCB’s decision, Karachi Kings’ all-rounder Dan Christian had already decided to leave PSL 6 and fly out of Pakistan.

Sources said that infection Cases surfaced after the players and staff members breached the bio-secure protocols set for players and teams management to ward off the spread of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a press release issued in this regard on Thursday stated “Following a meeting with the team owners and considering the health and wellbeing of all participants is paramount, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to postpone the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 with immediate effect. The decision was made after seven cases were reported in the competition, which had started on 20 February.

The PCB, as an immediate step, will focus on the safe and secure passage of all participants, and arrange repeat PCR tests, vaccines and isolation facilities to the six participating sides.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan, Director – Commercial and Babar Hamid, will hold a media conference at the National Stadium at 3pm to provide further updates.

Due to limited space in the press conference room, TV camerapersons are not allowed and the press conference will be live-streamed on the PCB YouTube Channel.”
