ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 759 criminals incarcerated in various jails across Pakistan are waiting for execution, the National Assembly was told.

In a written reply to a question by Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Pakistan (MMAP), the Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told the House that 527 prisoners are waiting for execution in Sindh, 169 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 48 in Balochistan, and 15 in Punjab.

The minister further told that 14,318 prisoners languishing in jails throughout the Country are convicted for life.

Of them, 7,916 are incarcerated in Punjab’s jails, 3,536 in Sindh’s jails, 1,677 in KPK’s jails, and 430 in jails across Balochistan.

To another question, the interior minister apprised the House that the crime rate of serious offenses has decreased manifold in the Federal Capital due to better strategy and measures being adopted by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police.

The minister told that cases of kidnapping for ransom decreased by 50%, cases of robbery decreased by 18.42%, cases of dacoities decreased by 6,7.74%, cases of burglaries decreased by 34.27%, cases of general theft decreased by 26.89%, cases of automobile theft decreased by 3.64%, and cases for fatal accidents decreased by 16.92%.
