ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Out of 164,000 acres of land of Pakistan Railways, almost 8,000 acres land is under encroachment, it was revealed in a meeting on Institutional Reforms held in Islamabad on Friday.

The meeting was presided over by the Federal Minister for Education and Chairman Cabinet Committee to review the progress of the Pakistan Railways Restructuring Plan.

The Committee suggested the Pakistan Railways to hire consultants and set up a separate Directorate of Pakistan Railways to deal with the issue of encroachment on a priority basis.

Showing his serious concerns over the encroachment of the Pakistan Railways land from Karachi to Peshawar, Shafqat Mahmood said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is determined to turn Pakistan Railways into a profit-making entity.

The Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak advised the Pakistan Railways to resolve the issue of unmanned crossings at various points in the Country before the beginning of work on Main Line-1 (ML-1).
