KIRKUK: At least 33 people were killed when a suicide bomber driving a car and some identified armed men disguised as police made an attempt to storm police headquarters in the city of Kirkuk, police sources said on Sunday.

Around 70 people also sustained injuries in the morning blast while, according to police, there were still bodies trapped under the collapsed debris of buildings after the attack in Kirkuk, 170 km (105 miles) north of the capital Baghdad.

“Two gunmen wearing explosive vests tried to storm into the Kirkuk police directorate, but guards at the main guard engaged them and killed them,” a police source inside the compound said.
