ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Wednesday evening for bilateral talks with his Pakistani Counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.
In the talks, the two foreign ministers reviewed the entire gamut of Pakistan-Azerbaijan bilateral ties including possibilities for enhanced collaboration in fields of oil & gas, technology, agriculture, railways, education, and to boost trade relations.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov thanked Pakistan for the unconditional support to Azerbaijan against Armenia’s aggression and its illegal occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
In the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance the bilateral collaboration in diverse areas of mutual interest.
The Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Ali Alizada were also present in the meeting.
Earlier upon his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi warmly welcomed the visiting dignitary.
In a statement on Twitter, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Azerbaijan is Pakistan’s long-standing friend and partner, and we work closely on matters of common interest at the regional and international fora.
“Pakistan and Azerbaijan are bound by a relationship anchored on common historic, religious and cultural links,” he said.
The Azeri Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov earlier in the day reached Islamabad on the first bilateral visit to Pakistan from the former Soviet Republic at the Foreign Minister level since 2010.
Besides holding bilateral talks with Pakistani leadership including President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, and the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Azeri foreign minister will also participate in the 2nd Round of Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan Trilateral Meeting.
The visit by Jeyhun Bayramov to Islamabad will provide an opportunity to explore ways and means to deepen Pakistan-Azerbaijan bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
