ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Further 82 COVID patients lost their lives while 1,704 new infections were recorded across the Country in the last 24 hours, according to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC).

Most of the deaths occurred in Punjab wherein 50 patients passed away followed by Sindh which recorded 19 deaths on December 21.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province registered 7 deaths, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 4 deaths, and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 2 deaths.

Out of 82 patients died on December 21, 41 were on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, 34,594 tests were performed throughout the Country which found 3,688 people positive in Punjab, 3,352 in Sindh, 1,553 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 393 in ICT, 210 in AJK, 179 in Balochistan, and 99 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

On December 21, the highest positivity ratio was observed in Abbottabad 40.32% followed by Hyderabad 22.12%, and Karachi 12.54%.

The positivity ratio in various federating units is as:

AJK 4.32%, Balochistan is 10.67%, Gilgit-Baltistan 1.00%, Islamabad 3.41%, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 5.67%, Punjab 4.22%, and Sindh 6.29%

  • Gender: 70% Males
  • Age range: Median 61 years)
  • 77.5% over the age of 50 years
  • 73% had chronic comorbidities
  • 91% of the deceased remained hospitalized

So far in total 6,370,704 tests have been conducted across the Country to ascertain Coronavirus while 410,937 COVID-19 patients have now recovered.

Currently, 40,261 COVID-19 patients are under treatment, out of whom, 2,917 patients are admitted in 615 hospitals with COVID facilities across the Country. In addition, 2,398 COVID patients are in critical condition.
