Monitoring Desk: The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov has signed a decree on imposing a state of emergency in Bishkek starting 20:00 today, reports TASS.

The General Staff of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces was instructed to send troops to Bishkek to maintain law and order and prevent armed clashes.

The Emergency regime will be in force until 08:00 on October 21. Kyrgyz Deputy Interior Minister Almazbek Orozaliyev has been appointed commandant of the capital.

Kyrgyzstan is facing mass protests against the president since the election held in this Central Asian state.

Regional experts believe that after every 10 years of so, Kyrgyzstan experiences large-scale unrest and last law and order situation was the Osh riots in 2010 and Osh is also remembered for 1990 riots.

Between 1990 and 2010 riots, popular uprising known as the “Tulip Revolution”, took place after the parliamentary elections in March 2005, forced President Askar Akayev’s resignation on 4 April 2005.
