ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: For making the Country wheat secure, the National Food Security and Research (NFSR) has strategized a three-pronged strategy including import through the private sector, import by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), and Government to Government (GTG) arrangements.

The Department of Plant Protection (DPP) has issued the import permit to 573 private importers for import of 2.890 MMT.

18 wheat vessels of quantity 1.092 MT have been booked by private importers to arrive in Pakistan from September 2020 to January 2021.

By September 30, 2020, out of 18 vessels, 7 vessels carrying 0.433 MMT wheat have arrived in the Country. The discharged 0.335 MMT of imported wheat distributed to Punjab (0.178 MMT), KP (0.0754 MMT), and Sindh (0.148 MMT).

In October 2020, 5 vessels carrying about 300000 MT wheat will arrive in Pakistan.

In November 2020, 3 vessels carrying 180000 MT wheat will arrive.

In December 2020, 2 vessels carrying 120000 MT wheat will arrive in Pakistan.

In January 2021, one vessel carrying 60000MT will arrive in Pakistan.

The TCP was allowed to import 1.50 MMT of wheat. It has arranged to import 0.330 MMT of wheat.

The price of wheat flour will start coming down as four ships of wheat imported by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan are seen arriving in October.

The next tender for 0.30 MMT will be opened in the coming week.
