Foreign OfficePakistan welcomes Joint Statement by Int’l Organizations on Indian Occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has welcomed the Joint Statement by six International Human Rights Organizations, calling on India to immediately release all arbitrarily detained prisoners and restore full high-speed internet access in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJ&K).

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the Joint Statement rightly underlines that measures to combat COVID-19 must respect the human rights of every individual.

Aisha Farooqui said that urgent release of political prisoners, human rights defenders & all those arrested in Indian Occupied Kashmir after August 5, 2019 is therefore imperative.

The Spokesperson further said that while expressing concern on the isolation of inmates in IOJ&K from outside the world due to communication blackout & ban on prison visits, the statement underscores that allegations of torture against Kashmiri prisoners as part of a decades-long pattern of abuses have been repeatedly denounced by Human Rights and United Nations bodies.
