During his visit, the Punjab governor met the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Germany Ismail Ertug to garner the support for the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus Status.

The Punjab government informed the MEP Ismail Ertug that Pakistan has fully implemented initiatives to ensure human rights, environment protection, social compliance and the UN Convention.

Chaudhry Sarwar said that after EU granted GSP Plus Status to Pakistan in January 2014, Pakistan-EU bilateral trade has equally increased. He said that benefits gained from the bilateral trade helped Pakistan to import machinery from Europe, adding that the GSP Plus Status also benefited Europe.

The MEP Ismail Ertug assured his full support, and said that he would stand by Pakistan to seek support from other European Parliamentarians.
