PoliticsLarkana no longer PPP’s stronghold: Dr Firdous

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the outcome of yesterday’s by-election in Sindh Assembly Constituency PS-11 Larkana-II has proved that Larkana is no longer Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bastion of political power.

In the by-election of PS-11 Larkana-II held on Thursday, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) Candidate Moazzam Ali Khan Abbasi won by securing 31,500 votes. His rival PPP’s Candidate Jameel Ahmed Soomro secured 26,021 votes.

In a tweet on Friday, Dr Firdous said that the narrative of those making hue and cry over rigging stands failed. She said that the PPP’s defeat in the by-election is sufficient to open their eyes.

The special assistant on information further said that the by-election in PS-11 Larkana-II also carries a lesson for those demanding fresh elections.

It’s worth noting that the GDA’s Candidate Moazzam Ali Khan Abbasi also had the support of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Co-Chairman PPPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari alleged rigging in PS-11 by-polls, and vowed to challenge the rigging at every forum.
