MediaNA Speaker administers Oath to newly Elected PRA Office Bearers

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser administered the Oath to the newly Elected Office Bearers of Parliamentary Reports Association (PRA) at Parliament House in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan was also present on the occasion.

While addressing the Oath Taking Ceremony, the speaker national assembly assured that the law relating to the establishment of Media Tribunals will be formulated after consultations with the media.

The speaker said that no law will be framed which is against the media workers rather their rights will be fully protected. He said that the media workers will be made part of the proceedings of the standing committee discussing the media tribunals law.

Asad Qaiser categorically said that there is no threat to democracy in the Country. He said that we are passing through a transitional period and with the passage of time, the democracy will gain strength.

However, he stressed the need for democracy within the parties through intra party polls. He said that the media should raise its voice for strengthening of democracy within the parties.

In her remark on the occasion, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to make the media fully functional as this segment of the society guides the government in strengthening the democracy, development and stability in the Country.

The special assistant said that media being the fourth pillar of state should act with responsibility. She said that media is the backbone of the state and it should be empowered because Pakistan could engage the world on any issue through media.

Dr Firdous said that our media is playing a positive and constructive role regarding improvement in the economy, promotion of investment-friendly environment and other steps of the government. She said that the Parliament and media should be on the same page for protection of the rights of general public.
