KARACHI: At least 20 people including a woman were injured in a powerful blast in the metropolis area of Mehmoodabad-6 moments after midnight.

According to police sources, the blast occurred at a deserted plot near Sitara Bakery located in Mehboodabad. Talking to Media, Dr. Semi Jamali said at least 20 injured people including six children and two women, have been brought to Jinnah Hospital; of the injured, a child is in critical state.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amir Sheikh, a block-bomb was placed under a car; at least two kilograms of explosives were used in the explosion.

SP Sarfraz Nawaz, talking to the media, said the motives behind the blast are being investigated into, as there was no election office located nearby or any other political or electoral activity going on in the blast-hit area.

The blast was so loud that it was heard far and wide. At least two shops and two vehicles were damaged in the explosions.

Law-enforcers including the Rangers arrived on the spot and cordoned off the blast site.

According to eyewitnesses, a motorbike parked near Sitara Bakery blew up; however, the police sources did not confirm the report. The police said the explosive material was placed in a red color car parked.

According to CID sources, the similar nut-bolts and pellets were used in the previous blasts as well.

MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has condemned the blast.
