ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has formulated an electric vehicle policy under which 30 percent of the vehicles will go electric by 2030, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said.

In a Press Conference in Islamabad on Friday, Amin Aslam said that the electric vehicle policy will be presented before the next Cabinet meeting for an approval.

The special assistant said that a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will be established where electric rickshaws, cars and buses will be manufactured. He added that this will also create immense job opportunities for our youth.

The adviser further apprised that Rs 7.50 billion have been allocated this year for the 10 billion tree plantation project. He said that the total cost of the tree plantation project will be about Rs 425 billion, adding that it will also create hundreds of thousands of jobs for the youth and take the Country towards green economy.

Amin Aslam said that one billion tree Tsunami project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa proved to be a complete success and received worldwide endorsements.

Furthermore, he said that use of plastic bags has been banned in the Federal Capital and an enforcement campaign will be launched in the next few days to ensure its implementation. He said that we want to make Pakistan plastic free. He said the provincial governments are also working towards that end.

The adviser on climate change said that a program has also been prepared for the proper disposal of liquid and solid waste. He said that the cities performing well in the waste management will also be rewarded.
