LAHORE: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Wednesday said all out efforts would be made to ensure peaceful elections on 11 May, adding that he had issued directions for the foolproof security arrangements during the elections.

The Army Chief was chairing a high-level meeting to review security arrangements ahead of historic polls at Core Headquarter Lahore on Wednesday.

Director General Rangers Punjab, Inspector General Punjab police, Home Secretary, Election Commission staff and other top officials attended the meeting.

“Army wants peaceful elections and for that 32,000 army personnel will perform election duty in Punjab,” DG ISPR Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said in a media briefing after the meeting.

The DG further said army officials had also held meetings with stakeholders in Sindh and Balochistan. No one should have any doubt about holding of the elections, he maintained.
