LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Tuesday sustained head and back injuries after he fell from a lifter during climbing up the stage installed for an election rally near Ghalib Market in Lahore’s Gulberg neighbourhood. He was seen bleeding, in a semi-conscious state as he was rushed away from the site of the accident.

Khan sustained injuries on his head and back, said the hospital sources. They also said that Khan had to have eleven stitches due to the injuries he sustained at back of his head.

However, doctors have reportedly comforted Imran’s supporters and well-wishers, asking them to stay calm as the PTI Chairman is out of danger.

Khan was supposed to address nine rallies in total today, from Ghalib stadium he was headed to Raiwind for a rally and then back again to Lahore.

TV footage showed him tumbling down with three or four party activists on a pick up truck. The PTI chief was seen bleeding when he was taken away by his party supporters to the city’s Liberty Hospital. However, later Imran Khan was taken to Shaukat Khanum hospital.

According to reports‚ the height of the lifter was above eight feet. Two of his guards also fell down while supporting Imran Khan.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz issued sympathetic statements to their competitor in Punjab. They prayed for swift recovery of Khan.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and Allama Tahirul Qadri also showed sympathy towards the PTI chief and prayed for his well being.

Famous singer and PTI leader Abrarul Haq has said the party chief is out of danger and stable now at the hospital. Another party leader Asad Umar, talking to media, also confirmed that Khan is now conscious and well.

Meanwhile, PTI has announced decision to cancel all rallies planned for Lahore today.
