RAWALPINDI: Unidentified bike riders opened fire on Chaudhry Zulfiqar’s car in G/9 sector in the federal capital when he was on his way to ATC to appear in hearing of Benazir Bhutto murder case involving former president Pervez Musharraf who is under arrest in his Chak Shahzad farmhouse. Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali had been receiving death threats from unknown suspects for some time.

The prosecutor and his bodyguard were taken to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. Some doctors said he was killed instantly as several bullets had hit him in the face.

The gunmen escaped after the brazen shooting. However, no group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Friday adjourned the hearing of Benazir Bhutto murder case till May 14 due to the murder of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Prosecutor Ch. Zulfiqar.

The ATC had indicted Musharraf in the case in February 2011, declaring him a proclaimed offender.

On Friday, the ATC judge Habib Urrehman adjourned the hearing without any proceeding. The court accepted a plea for granting exemption to Musharraf for personal appearance due to security
