KARACHI, Pakistan: In a bid to deal with the riots and unlawful protests and rallies, an anti-riots force has been established in Karachi on international pattern.

The force has been established on zonal level and each zone will be headed by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the force could be deployed in any emergence situation, according to an official.

The official said that the anti-riots force consists of 357 personnel on initial basis and soon it will be extended to 1,000.

Meanwhile, an introductory ceremony of the anti-riots force was held at Garden Police Headquarters in Karachi, in which Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dr Amir Sheikh, DIG East Amir Farooqui, District Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), SSP Headquarters and other officials participated.

While addressing the ceremony, the AIG Dr Amir Sheikh said that anti-riots force personnel are being trained to deal strategically with protests, sit-ins and rallies.

The AIG Dr Amir Sheikh said that no officer will be allowed to use weapons except sticks, rubber bullets, shelling and water cannon while they will be having equipment’s for protection from stones and gas.
