ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal has said that the sole motive behind the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s conviction was to keep him out of 2018 general elections so that Imran Khan could win.

“These cases were of political nature which only aimed at to take revenge,” Ahsan Iqbal said while talking to media after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended conviction of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar awarded by the Accountability Court in Avenfield reference.

“We are thankful to Allah Almighty,” Ahsan Iqbal said. “I congratulate to the millions of people of Pakistan.”

Ahsan Iqbal said that the lions of PML-N have prayed for the release of Nawaz Sharif.

The PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said that today is the true victory of justice when innocents are declared innocent.

“I congratulate the PML-N workers around the Country,” he said.

Earlier the two-member bench of the IHC Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb delivered its short judgement in Avenfield reference.

In its judgement, the IHC, while suspending the sentences awarded to Sharif family members, IHC ordered to submit surety bonds of Rs 500,000 for each accused, and issued orders to release Sharif family members for Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
