The Indian legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has strongly criticized the recreated version of evergreen song “Chalte Chalte” for upcoming Bollywood movie “Mitron”. The song has recently been recorded in the voice of Atif Aslam and failed to give goosebumps. The remake of iconic piece has lost its true essence.
“Chalte Chalte” was originally sang by Lata Mangeshkar for 1972 film “Pakeezah”. She even slammed the trend of remaking old songs and said that nobody has the right to tinker with the creativity of great lyricists. She further said “The original poets wrote what they wanted to and remaking of songs saddens me”.
Lata Mangeshkar derided that where is the creativity in shuffling the lyrics and lifting the beloved classics?
The legendary singer further said, I have heard that remix has been composed with different lyrics. By whose consent? She kept on saying “I have not heard the Atif Aslam’s version of Chalte Chalte and I don’t even want to.”
Previously, Atif Aslam recreated “Dhekhte Dhekhte” and “Rashke Kamar” originally sang by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and didn’t inspire either. If he had sung them as a cover at live concerts, that would have been better.
Some days ago, Alka Yagnik also slammed the remake of her super hit “Dilbar Dilbar”. She said “It was okay but she couldn’t believe that young musicians have the audacity to distorting Lata’s tracks”.
