MURREE, Pakistan: The Opposition Alliance has decided to field a unanimous Candidate for the Presidential Election to be held on September 4, indicating that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has withdrawn from its earlier stance of nominating Aitzaz Ahsan for the Slot.

The decision was taken when an All Parties Conference (APC) which included PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Awami National Party (ANP), Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), National Party (NP), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) took place at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Murree on Saturday.

Sources said that the APC meeting also decided to form a Panel to nominate a Presidential Candidate from the Opposition.

They said that the Panel would be headed by the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and comprising on one member each from PPP, PML-N and an impartial party.

Sources said that the Panel would elect three Candidates by tomorrow, and eventually one Candidate would be picked for the Presidential Election by the Opposition Parties.

Furthermore sources said that in the APC meeting, PPP expressed reservations over the statement of Pervez Rasheed in which he had asked Aitzaz Ahsan to seek an apology from Nawaz Sharif. In response, PML-N said that Pervez Rasheed’s statement wasn’t a party policy, and he uttered such remarks in his personal capacity.
