KARACHI, Pakistan: The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi on Saturday said Pakistan Navy was well aware emerging challenges and fully capable to affectively deal with them.

In his address at the passing out parade of 109th midshipmen and 18th short service course at Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, the Naval Chief said safeguarding national interests and maintaining defense sovereignty were their top most priorities.

The Naval Chief said the establishment of regional maritime patrols had been decided which would help in controlling piracy, smuggling and terrorism in oceans.

Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said security of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar port would be ensured, and task force 88 had been established in that regard. He said Pakistan Navy was being strengthening on modern lines technologically.

Moreover, he said Pakistan was a peace loving Country and desired peaceful coexistence with neighbors but its desire for peace should not be taken as its weakness.

Earlier, the Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy Commodore Syed Faisal Hameed in his address presented the performance of the academy.
