PoliticsPPP never resorted to derogatory remarks against judiciary: LHC

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Justice Atir Mahmood on Monday lashed out at the former Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and also praised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) saying that it never resorted to derogatory remarks against the judiciary despite being victimized in the past.

Justice Atir Mahmood made these remarks when Ahsan Iqbal appeared before a three-member bench of the LHC headed by the Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi for hearing of Contempt of Court Case filed against him.

The LHC judge said to Ahsan Iqbal that if a verdict comes in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) then the judiciary earns respect but in vice versa, PML-N leadership begin bashing the judiciary.

“Is there any other political party other than PML-N which made comments on judiciary?” Justice Atir Mahmood asked from Ahsan Iqbal.

The LHC asked the former interior minister that in your written reply, u have regretted your remarks and extended unconditional apology to the Court. But, the Court remarked, you say outside the Court that your party is being victimized.

The Court said to the PML-N leader that you are a political worker, adding that heart of a political worker is widened as compared to common people’s.

“If you make such comments about the judiciary, what will happen then,” the LHC asked from the former minister.

The Counsel of Ahsan Iqbal requested the Court that his Client had tendered unconditional apology; therefore, proceedings of Contempt of Court against him be ended.

Eventually the Court adjourned the hearing against Ahsan Iqbal till September 5.

Talking to media after the hearing, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has no experience to govern, adding that it has ruined the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Ahsan Iqbal said that this time projects worth $45 billion are under construction in the Country. He said that the Country’s image improved during the five years tenure of PML-N.

The former minister said that Karachi was a hub of target killing but now there is peace in the City.
