ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 19,008 nomination papers were filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from across the Country for the forthcoming general elections 2018, sources said.

The ECP Sources said that the most number of nomination papers totaling 8,987 were filed from Punjab for the national and provincial assemblies.

Sources said that 4,764 nomination papers were filed from Sindh, 2,928 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 1,675 from Balochistan for the national and provincial assemblies.

Likewise, according to sources, 345 Candidates from formerly Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and 93 from Islamabad filed their nominations papers.

Sources said that for National assembly’s 342 Seats, a total of 5,488 nomination papers were submitted.

For the National assembly, 2,349 nomination papers were filed from Punjab, 1,308 from Sindh, 774 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 404 from Balochistan, 345 from formerly FATA, and 93 from Islamabad while 215 nomination papers were filed for non-Muslims.

Sources further said that 6,638 nomination papers were filed for the Punjab assembly, 3,457 for the Sindh assembly, 2,145 for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, and 1,271 for the Balochistan assembly.

Meanwhile, the second phase of electoral process started across the Country on Tuesday with nomination papers being scrutinized with the help of various institutions including the State Bank of Pakistan, Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Yesterday was the last day for filing of nomination papers with Returning Officers (ROs) for general elections scheduled on July 25.
