ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk was sworn in as the 7th Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan on Friday, a day after the elected government successfully completed the term of its five-year tenure.

President Mamnoon Hussain administered oath to the Caretaker Prime Minister in a Ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.

Later, Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk was given guard of honour at the Prime Minister House after oath-taking of his office at the President House.

A contingent of guards presented salute to the Caretaker Prime Minister and national anthem was played on the occasion. He reviewed the parade and interacted with the senior officials at the PM House.

Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk was unanimously nominated as the Caretaker Prime Minister by the government and opposition.

Nasir-ul-Mulk graduated from Khyber Law College at the University of Peshawar and qualified as a barrister in law in 1996 from London. He took oath as the Chief Justice of Pakistan on July 6, 2014 and served in the capacity for about a year.

Earlier, he rendered nine years of laudable service as the Justice of the Supreme Court. During his tenure as judge of the Supreme Court, he was nominated as acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.

His advent into the judiciary began with a series of legal appointments that eventually led to his nomination as a judge. In 1991, he was elected as the secretary general of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Bar Association and then elected twice as the President of High Court Bar Association in 1990 and 1993.

Nasir-ul-Mulk was appointed as the Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 1993 and as Judge of the PHC in 1994. In July 2004, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court.
