ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday underlined the need of connectivity to eliminate regional poverty.

In his address at a Seminar titled ‘Transport Corridor in South Asia’ held in Islamabad, Ahsan Iqbal said the future of the region lied in regional connectivity and trade.

The minister said the transport corridor had been very important for the economic development of the region. He said developing Countries would have to find new markets for the sale of their products.

Ahsan Iqbal said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had been the project of economic development and regional cooperation. He said in 2050 Asia would be the 52 percent of International gross domestic product (GDP).

The planning and development minister said Pakistan had been an important pillar in South Asia. He said keeping in mind the importance of connectivity Pakistan had focused upon the Road Infrastructure. He said the incumbent government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gave importance to the transport corridor in its manifesto.
