KATHMANDU, Nepal: A Bangladeshi plane carrying 67 passengers and four crew members crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday, leaving 49 people dead and 22 injured.

The Bangladeshi airline US-Bangla’s plane crashed on the east side of the airport, according to the Kathmandu Post.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Sanjiv Gautam said the plane had lost control when it attempted to land on the runway.

“The aircraft was permitted to land from the Southern side of the runway flying over Koteshwor but it landed from the Northern side,” Sanjiv Gautam was quoted as saying by the Kathmandu Post.

“We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the unusual landing,” Sanjiv Gautam added.

Meanwhile, all flights at the TIA have been cancelled following the crash.
