Raza Rabbani comes up to our expectations as Chairman Senate: Nawaz Sharif

PoliticsRaza Rabbani comes up to our expectations as Chairman Senate: Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Opposition had a desire to see Mian Raza Rabbani as the Chairman Senate as he came up to their expectations.

“We will support Raza Rabbani as the Chairman Senate if PPP brings him in the Senate,” Nawaz Sharif while talking to media outside the Accountability Court in Islamabad.

The political observes and analysts were stunned on Wednesday evening after the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari refused to give his consent for Raza Rabbani as the Chairman Senate when his opinion was sought about whether he would prefer reinstatement of Raza Rabbani as the Senate Chairman as also endorsed by Nawaz Sharif.

“Thank you, but that is not what I want,” Zardari said while standing along with the Chief of Jamiat Uleme-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Today while having an informal talk with media representatives, Nawaz Sharif said they had given the name of Raza Rabbani for the Chairman Senate to avoid further horse trading. He said Raza Rabbani did his job very well and was the suitable person for the Chairman slot.

Nawaz Sharif said horse trading was started in Balochistan two months ago, adding it was a bad tradition, and should be restricted.

The former prime minister also said legislation should be made against horse trading and they were ready for it.

Talking about the appointment of the Chairman Senate, Nawaz Sharif said PML-N was the only major party in the Senate; therefore, they had the right to have their candidate appointed as the Chairman of the Upper House.

“Who has said that PML-N is not bringing its Chairman Senate,” Nawaz Sharif said in response to speculations that the ruling party might not bring its own candidate for the Chairman Senate.
