Legal option to be pursed if Sharif family’s names placed on ECL: Marriyum

Government of PakistanLegal option to be pursed if Sharif family’s names placed on ECL:...

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday said there was no justification in demanding the names of those to be put on Exit Control Exit (ECL) who were appearing before the Court thrice during the week and sometimes twice a day as only the names of the fugitives from law were put on the ECL.

On Wednesday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry seeking placement of names of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar on the ECL.

Talking to the media outside the Accountability Court in Islamabad, Marriyum Aurangzeb said the interior ministry would examine whether the request by the NAB fulfilled the requirements for putting the names on the ECL or not and then take the decision accordingly.

The minister said for putting the names on the ECL, they would have to look at the prescribed legal and Constitutional procedures.

The information minister said the NAB had chosen to write the letter to the interior ministry when the cases were in their last phases and the verdicts were to be delivered.

Marriyum said how could NAB know what would be the verdict of the Court? She said in her view it should not have been done by the NAB at this stage.

The minister said the people were watching the filing of supplementary reference after reference adding that they had neither found anything in the six references filed so far nor in the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) reports. She said that they even failed to ferret out anything from the boxes that the JIT presented in the Supreme Court.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said they had not been able to unearth corruption of even a single penny.
