ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Wednesday said that his party launched its Textile Policy in Faisalabad a day after consultations with all stakeholders in this critical industrial sector.

In a series of tweets, Imran Khan said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, by putting heavy taxes on energy inputs, has made Pakistan industry uncompetitive.

Imran Khan said that a starting point for our policy will be to align the price of gas and electricity, provided to the industry, with the price paid by regional competitors, to give our industry a level playing field. He said that the second point is that the profitability of the entire value chain will be made viable.

The Chairman PTI said that refunds will be cleared and not allowed to build up in the future to ensure industry liquidity. He said that effective steps will be taken to ensure continuance of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus.

In addition, he said that facilitative infrastructure such as internationally accredited quality assurance labs will be set up through international collaboration

Imran Khan further said that encouragement of local manufacture of textile machinery will be done through technology transfer and international collaboration.

Imran Khan said that PTI’s textile policy is just the first in a series of policies being formulated through consultative processes with stakeholders. He also said that a very important core of our textile policy will be zero rating of all textile export inputs.

Earlier on Tuesday, Imran Khan visited Faisalabad where he while addressing local traders and industrialists said that special focus should be on industrialization for national progress and prosperity. He said that Pakistan could become an Asian tiger if national institutions are improved.
