ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Adviser Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Monday said coercing Pakistan into cooperation for Afghan solution would be unhelpful and it would not take them anywhere.

In a meeting with a delegation from European Union including the EU Special Envoy to Afghanistan Roland Kobia and the EU ambassador to Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain in Islamabad during which matters pertaining to regional security situation with a particular reference to Afghanistan were discussed in detail, the adviser underscored that a cooperative framework was required to resolve conflict in Afghanistan and stressed the need of a political solution to the conflict.Coercing Pakistan will be unhelpful, Nasser Janjua tells EU Envoy for Afghanistan

Nasser Janjua highlighted the complexities of the perpetual conflict in Afghanistan and briefed them about the role played and contributions made by Pakistan to fight the menace of terrorism.

The adviser sensitized the delegates over the fragility of the region and reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment towards peace in Afghanistan and the region.

The EU envoy expressed his commitment to advance European Union’s contribution to deliver lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and in the region.

“European Union is aiming at bringing peace in Afghanistan by coordinating and consulting with all the regional and international countries” he said.

The envoy also acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and for regional peace and stability.

“EU recognizes the challenges faced by Pakistan and appreciates the way Pakistan is responding to those challenges.” he added.

Both sides agreed that by means of progression, cooperation and economic interdependence, this region can be made more stable.
