PoliticsISPR shouldn't have replied so abruptly over Saad Rafique’s statement: Khursheed Shah

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday said he didn’t find anything wrong in statement of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, and added ISPR shouldn’t have replied so abruptly.

On Thursday in a media briefing in Rawalpindi, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor termed a recent statement of Saad Rafique about Pakistan army unwarranted and irresponsible.

“I have listened Saad Rafique’s statement and found nothing wrong in it,” Khursheed Shah said while talking to media in Lahore today.

In response to director general ISPR’s statement, Saad Rafique last night said he was disheartened by such remarks. He said he didn’t give any irresponsible statement, and the way his statement had been projected was unfortunate.

Khursheed Shah further said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wanted the continuation of democracy and timely elections in the Country; however, he added, the government seemed scared of the coming time.

The PPP leader said the recent sit-ins gave dangerous message to the World, and his party was always against such sit-ins. He said it was discretion of parties to hold protests and sit-ins but these shouldn’t have disrupted the life of common man.

The Opposition Leader said PPP had been in favor of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas’ (FATA) merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since day first.

The PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari along with other party leaders is scheduled to meet the Chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri in Lahore today for the second time in last couple of weeks.

Talking about the meeting with Dr Tahir-ul-Qadir, Khursheed Shah said they have had meetings with the PAT Chief earlier a well, and there was nothing new in it.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation.
