ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued 7,58,134 fine tickets worth Rs 220 million to road users on violation of traffic rules during the current year, the police sources said.

According to the details, 26487 vehicles were fined for having fancy (non-pattern) number plates while 39,363 fine tickets were issued to motorists for not fastening seat belts, 24156 for using mobile phones during driving and 44337 motorcyclists were fined for riding on bikes without helmets.

Similarly, 6418 amateur drivers were issued fine tickets while 53155 fine tickets were issued over lane violation, 44337 for parking in prohibited or no parking areas, 31767 over careless driving, 8650 for having defective lights, 14617 for violating one way, 9706 for driving on wrong side of the road, 15054 vehicles for having no registration and 17916 for driving without license.

Likewise, 3416 public transporters were fined for misbehaving with passengers and 33086 for route-violation, 7384 for driving PSV without permit, 34047 for interrupting smooth flow of traffic, 48619 for over-loading, 1665 for over-speeding, 15048 for parking on bus stops, 4355 for parking on zebra crossing, 4355 for having pressure horns, 11026 for driving in negligent manner, 22543 for violating traffic signals, 1237 over smoke emission, 1408 for having tinted glass, 11347 for taking turns from prohibited side, 12670 for taking turn from wrong side and 11762 for using high beam lights.

ITP followed the policy of equal implementation of law and 71 VIPs were fined during the reporting period.

The SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob said that campaign is underway following directions of Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal against those using non-pattern of fancy number plates. He has appealed the citizens to follow rules and use number plates issues by Excise and Taxation Office.

He said that ITP personnel has been directed to ensure implementation on traffic rules and regulation irrespective of status and rank and demonstrate patience and politeness while issuing traffic violation tickets to the road users.

He said that Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is utilizing all available resources to facilitate the general public.

The force issues traffic violation tickets not as a punitive measure but the purpose is to ensure safe road environment in the Capital and secure the lives of the people.
