Government of PakistanFaizabad sit-in issue to be resolved in peaceful manner: Tariq Fazl Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Wednesday said the federal government wanted to peacefully end Islamabad sit-in staged by two religious parties by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Yah Rasool Allah Pakistan and Sunni Tehreek Pakistan.

Talking to media in Islamabad, the minister said the government had nominated a team under Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Raja Zafar ul Haq to negotiate with the sit-in protestors.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry further said commuters, students, patients and office workers in the twin cities continued to face hardship as protesters continued to block the Faizabad Interchange.

The CADD minister said that religious leaders had shown their confidence on the nominated team as Mushahid Ullah and Ahsan Iqbal were the part of committee.

Meanwhile, the sit-in has still been continuing since a week at Faizabad Interchange; therefore people from Rawalpindi have to take alternatives routes to enter the Federal Capital, resulting in a massive traffic jam.

The demonstrators are demanding the Law and Minister Zahid Hamid to tender his resignation over his involvement in bringing a controversial amendment in Election Act 2017 relating to Khatam-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood).

The government says that it has been engaged in negotiating with the protesters since the beginning but in the meantime, some reports also surface saying that police force can anytime be used to disperse the protesters.
