SportsPakistan maintains superiority over India in ODIs

Pakistan continues to have an edge over India in One Day Internationals (ODIs) despite the fact that in recent years, the arch-rivals remained dominant over green shirts.

Since October 1, 1978 when Pakistan and India met each other for the first time in 50-over format, a total 129 ODI matches have so been played by them, out of which Pakistan won 78, India bagged victory in 52 ODIs while four matches ended without any results.

In terms of percentage, Pakistan won 60% of bilateral contests whereas India has 40% record in its favour.

But it is quite startling fact that Pakistan has yet to register its first victory against India in ICC World Cup and T20 World Cup.

Since the outset, India was engaged with Sri Lanka in more number of ODIs than any other opponent as number of their bilateral matches remains 155.

Pakistan remains India’s second most-faced opponent with 129 ODIs followed by Australia with 128 ODIs, West Indies 121 ODIs and New Zealand with 100.

In above named five teams, India has an edge only over Sri Lanka and New Zealand with regard to more ODI wins. Against Sri Lanka, India won 88 matches against 55 while India secured triumph in 49 ODIs against New Zealand’s 44.

Meanwhile, 100th ODI between New Zealand and India is underway at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on October 25 (today) where the two teams are playing the second ODI of three-match series.

New Zealand won the first ODI at Mumbai on October 22 and now India is desperate to bounce back in second ODI to level the Home series.
