Lahore, Pakistan: Five terrorists killed by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) near Sagian Bridge belonged to banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).

Talking to Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency, police sources confirmed that one wanted terrorist Zarrar from Bahawalnagar was also killed in shootout who belonged to banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ). It is pertinent to mention that Zarrar was an absconder who broke jail in past with the active help of LeJ terrorists. Police said that Zarrar officially joined Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after the killing of the head of LeJ Malik Ishaq in a police encounter.

Police sources said that CTD got information from an arrested terrorist that LeJ people with active support of TTP based in Afghanistan would target procession of Ashura in Lahore.

“Terrorists were residing in the jurisdiction of Dera Saeen police station near River Ravi. They had s schedule to reach city at evening of Sunday (Asshura day) for suicide bombing. Terrorists fired at CTD forces when CTD team reached near their rented house. Five terrorists were killed while three managed to escape”, said official sources.

It is pertinent to mention that Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) attacked Ashura procession and Imambagahs in Lahore in past, killing hundreds of people including women and children.
