ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In a bid to promote awareness regarding indigenous folk culture of Pakistan among the children, National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) will hold first programme “Truck Art: Engagement with Artisans” under ‘Craft is Knowledge’ series from September 18.

Master artisans in the specialized craft field of truck art will demonstrate their skills and provide hands-on training to children aged between 7-16 years in a meaningful and interactive manner during the five day programme.

The programme is being conducted in collaboration with Training Wing of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Directorate General for Special Education (DGSE).

The training programme will continue till September 22 daily between 10 am to 5 pm at the Heritage Museum, Lok Virsa.

A prestigious opening ceremony for the programme `Truck Art: Engagement with Artisans’ will be held in Museum Hall, Lok Virsa on September 18 which will feature a number of live folk musical performances, cultural shows by children in traditional costumes.

The new series called “Craft is Knowledge” is being launched by Lok Virsa with the idea of `Harnessing Culture with Education’.

The purpose of the programme is to promote traditional skills, encourage master artisans and to inculcate awareness among younger generation, especially children about the indigenous folk culture of Pakistan.

Crafts in focus will be the ones that were more popular among children during the last two years such as pottery making, truck art, embroidery, weaving, stone carving, doll making, mirror work and papier mache.

The programme will also feature a one-day “Children Lok Mela” to be organized every month at the premises of FDE designated schools.

The opening ceremony of first “Children Lok Mela” will be held at Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), I-9/1 on September 19 (Tuesday).
