NewsPakistan mulls amending its Criminal Justice System to eliminate terrorism

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has decided to amend Criminal Justice System across the Country to eliminate terrorism, a menace which has already caused immense suffering to Pakistani people and economy.

Sources said that the federal government has sent recommendations to provinces which include extension of physical remand period to one month; online registration of First Information Report (FIR) in all provinces; and amendment in Qanoon-e-Shahadat.

Likewise, the federal government also recommended considering forensic and digital evidences in all cases; restoration of Police Order 2002 in Sindh and Balochistan; and initiating an inquiry before filing any case.

The government sent a series of its recommendations to provinces after a Rawalpindi’s anti-terrorism Court acquitted five accused in the almost decade-old Benazir Bhutto Murder Case last month.

The acquitted persons allegedly belonged to outlawed terror outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, the Court declared two Police Officers guilty in the Case and awarded them 17 years imprisonment each.

However, it has not been ascertained yet that government’s recommendations had anything to do with the acquittal of terrorists in Benazir Bhutto Murder Case.

Separately, the federal government has also decided to increase prices of medicines.

Sources said that Drug Pricing Committee of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has prepared recommendations which will be sent to the Ministry of National Health.

They said that after approval from the health ministry, the Federal Cabinet will also approve new prices.
