BANGALORE, India: The Indian Journalist Community is demonstrating Countrywide on Wednesday to register its strong protest against the brutal assassination of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Country’s Southern Bangalore City.

The massive protests and rallies erupted all over India after unknown assailants riding motorcycles gunned down Gauri Lankesh on Tuesday when she just reached her home at Rajarajeshwari Nagar area of Bangalore.

The 55-year-old Gauri Lankesh was a staunch critic of Hindu extremism and communal violence.

Following her targeted killing, various Indian journalists’ organizations announced nationwide protests, and as part of that, demonstrations took place in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Dharwad, Pune, Chandigarh and other Cities today.

In Bangalore, protests were carried out at Bangalore Town Hall, Naik Bhavan and Mysore Bank Circle while in Delhi, protests were held at Press Club and Jantar Mantar.

Mumbai journalists staged protest at Press Club and Amphitheater, and Pune journalists at SP College while Mangalore journalists protested at DCs Office, Jyothi Circle and Town Hall.

Likewise, protests were staged at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad, Chennai Press Club, the Clock Tower in Udupi, Mini Vidhan Soudha in Gulbarga, Kalyan Nagar in Dharwad, Dharwad District Press Club, Tontadarya Math in Gadag, and the Working Journalists Sangha Office in Annegeri Taluk.

In addition, journalists also gathered at Chennai Press Club, Chandigarh Press Club, Manaveeyam veedhi Trivandrum in Kerala, Gandhi Circle in Jaipur and Gandhi Statue in Lucknow to condemn the killing of Gauri Lankesh.

Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC), Press Club of India and Press Association also jointly organized protests.

The protests would also continue on Thursday in various Cities of India in the wake of Gaurie Lankesh’s murder.
